Defend quietly and calmly with him. He is not too young to learn deep relaxation breathing, breathing from the tummy (I show all my grandkids to do it, it really helps for everything, even scrapes and cuts that cause scare). So teach him to do that
zero in on what he is good at, and phase him for the job / efforts he making ~ this well be a hard one, i 'm working with a son with similar problems ; it isn't easy!!
